“You really don’t have to,” I said, my arms folded in protest.

It was a farce. I’d much rather ride in the band bus than the crew bus, even with the risk of tea-bagging.

Noah smirked, dragging my luggage along and jutting his chin toward the bus as we approached.

“You like battling ten dudes for one bathroom on the road? We have two bathrooms on our bus, James. Two.”

That alone was enough to sell me. Perhaps that explained Noah’s new favorite number. I’d spent fifteen minutes waiting for one of the crew to get out of the bathroom this morning, only to go in and wish I’d just peed in the empty coffee cup next to my bunk.

“Your bus is a mess.”

He nodded, opening the door and holding it for me as he watched me climb the steps. “Truly disgusting.”

Noah clapped his hands excitedly, following me inside to give me a tour as if I hadn’t been on the bus this morning.

“Kitchen. We play cards here a lot. The guys will eat whatever you bring on board, so hide it in your bunk if it doesn’t need a fridge. Front bathroom.” He pointed to a closed door. “Never go in after Spencer.”

“Noah, I’ve seen the bus.” I nodded down the aisle. “Bunks that way. Bathroom with the shower and the lounge in the back. It’s not exactly a palatial estate.”

He shuffled his feet, one shoe sliding in a slow circle between us as he dropped his head shyly. “I just want you to feel like this is your home while we’re on the road.”

Patting his cheek, I took my duffle bag and strolled to the bunks. “Show me mine.”

I got the spare bunk in the back, choosing the bottom one for fear I might roll out one night, even though Noah swore the bunk guards served their purpose.

They permitted me the top bunk to store my luggage and belongings since the guys had already occupied the other storage space. It was a tight fit with a narrow aisle, and I’d probably have to take my suitcase down and open it in the lounge when I needed to rifle through it, but it was good enough.

Dusting off my hands and stepping back, I smiled at Noah. “Thanks for letting me stay on this bus. While it has a unique tang of something odorous, it’s not body spray, and I think that’s an improvement.”

He smiled back, leaning his shoulder against the wall and tilting his head. Noah mastered the casual lean, and I ignored how good his forearms looked crossed over his chest with his flannel rolled to the elbow. The corded muscle running along them flexed even though he wasn’t doing anything that required effort.

I cleared my throat, distracting myself by situating my bunk. Turning away to hide my blush, I made the bed with the spare sheets they gave me.

I tried to ignore the heat of Noah’s presence, the proximity to him because of the coziness of the bus. I could sense his eyes on me as I spread over the bed, tucking the far corner of my sheet against the wall.
